Where God Has Placed Us

I heard a sermon the other day that got me to thinking. Don’t you love it when that happens? It got me, at first, to thinking about how God has placed us in this world. Some born into poverty and some into riches. Squalor, luxury or somewhere in between. The choice was His and His alone. I am sure He had His reasons. His thoughts are beyond our knowing until He choses to reveal.

Praying that He does reveal a little bit, wanting Him to have His say, some verses came to mind. Then there arose another thought. It is not just our geography, or social situation. It is also a matter of time. We have been placed in history. And all these circumstances matter to the One with a design.

Our situation is what we can know best. About others? It is only but a guess. What we do share in common is 2011. A time when information flows from man to machine to man. Every bit of knowledge retained, now encased for any to find. Language no longer separates, click but once and a foreign tongue is changed to one that you can read. Man is building the Tower of Babel again.

Genesis 11:6   “And the LORD said, Behold the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”

Well, we know what happened last time. Knowledge without wisdom, the imaginations of man infected with the unrestrained knowledge of evil, was more than God would allow. We have come upon this time again, we have the tools to rebuild a forbidden tower. And each man builds according to the desires that consume them, be they good or evil.

This time, for good, is unsurpassed for those who bear the cross. It is meant for us to shine in God’s glory upon this ever dark world. For with the knowledge of His word coupled with the leading of His Spirit, those who bear the cross of Christ are well suited for this time.  Has there ever been a time like this where the church has known so much? Most of us know more of God’s Holy Word than most elders of the past. But sad to say, most of this knowledge still awaits a coupling with faith.

What is it that holds us back? It is that situation thing. We are situated in a place of abundance. How hard it is for those who have so much, to trade it for a field. Yet, there are those who see the value of the pearl. How hard it is when we have built up a treasure of our own. To place the cross on all these things is more than some will bear. It is only by desiring His love, more than all else, that we can lift this cross.

Recognise the place you are. On whose mountain do you stand? Where do you place your trust? In self or in His cross? Open the hand that grips this world and then you will receive. Release it all in your spirit. It all belongs to Him. Understand the age we are in is drawing to a close. His Spirit will lead us through each day and guard over us at night. Upon this Rock we can stand, in Jesus we can place our trust. So let us blend our love with faith. I am sure that is God’s hope.

About Paul Burgess

Learning to be a child that follows and shares so that we understand more of His love that goes beyond our understanding. That our life be transformed in such a way that Judah and Israel become jealous. That they are provoked to envy that the nations have received of His grace. That they might shout "Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord." That rightiousness be restored.
